Our retrofit featured in CIBSE Retrofit Revisit Report

We’re pleased to share Four Walls Consultants’ involvement in the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Retrofit Revisit Report. This study revisits ten homes across the UK, including “Blaise Castle,” the home of Four Walls director Ian Mawditt, to assess the long-term effectiveness of energy retrofit measures. The report highlights crucial findings that offer insights into improving energy performance and sustainability in residential properties.

Key Findings of the Study

The CIBSE study re-examined various retrofit strategies implemented over recent years to gauge their impact on energy efficiency, indoor comfort, and carbon reduction. It provided an insight into how these homes have performed over the decade since they were retrofitted, which will help to inform retrofit approaches for future projects. The Retrofit Revisit Report was co-authored by Julie Godefroy, Head of Net Zero Policy at CIBSE, and Marion Baeli, Principal of Sustainability Transformation at 10 Design. Their combined expertise in sustainable building practices and policy development was instrumental in assessing the long-term performance of retrofitted homes, including Blaise Castle.

Four Walls Consultants provided the Building Performance Evaluation insights for Blaise Castle, which found that strategic insulation upgrades and targeted energy interventions significantly enhanced thermal efficiency, reducing heat loss and lowering energy consumption. Additionally, it was found that a balanced heat recovery ventilation system along with a good airtightness strategy is essential to maintaining indoor air quality and comfort. The deterioration in air permeability was marginal over the 10 years, and space heating energy reduction was still 75% lower than before the retrofit.
